Safari in Tanzania
Tanzania
The home of the Kilimanjaro Mountain, Olduvai gorge and the famous Serengeti National Park with its wildlife and Masai culture, Tanzania hosts iconic African tourism magnets that continue to draw people from all over the world to this quite poor county in Eastern Africa. Famous Ngorongoro Crater and the sunny island of Zanzibar are other popular places to visit in Tanzania, while the largest city of the country, Dar Es Salaam offers some African city life.
Tanzania, land of savannas, historical islands and Africa’s highest peak
Located in the hot spot of tourism in East Africa, Tanzania offers attractions from mountains and wildlife parks to sunny beaches and cultural draws. The country hosts popular wildlife reserves such as the Serengeti National Park, representing the wild side of Africa at its full power. Filled with scenic open landscapes and wild African animals such as lions, rhinos, elephants, zebras, and leopards, the popular Serengeti Park is among the best places on earth to observe wild animals in their natural surroundings.
Serengeti National Park and the adjacent Ngorongoro Conservation Area with its wildlife and volcanic crater are quite easily accessible via nearby city of Arusha and host well-maintained tourist services. Tanzania is also home to less popular but equally impressive Tarangire, Mikumi and Ruaha National Parks, as well as the huge Selous Game Reserve.
The roof of Africa
Mount Kilimanjaro is another obvious Tanzanian tourist magnet. A snow-capped mountain rising up to 5,895 m / 19340 ft above the savanna plains of Tanzania, Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and a highly popular destination for mountaineers and trekkers from all around the world, especially as this spectacular journey to the roof of Africa requires no extra skills or equipment. Only a local guide is needed.
Beaches and culture.
Apart from its nature wonders, Tanzania also has beaches and cultural draws to offer. Sunny tropical island on the African coast, Zanzibar is something totally different from the African mainland. This popular Tanzanian holiday resort introduces you tropical beaches, the ancient Stone Town, and a local Muslim culture. Talking of Tanzania and tourism, also Dar Es Salaam has to be mentioned. This former capital city is the host of the best shopping in Tanzania, not to mention the museums, the historical buildings, and the coastline of the Indian Ocean.
Most of the country has two rainy seasons, of which the first one is between March and May, and the second from November to January. The best time to travel to Tanzania is outside these periods in February or between June and October.
How to get there.
Located in East Africa, Tanzania is most easily reached by air. The main air traffic hub of the country is Dar Es Salaam, receiving frequent flights from major destinations all over the world. It is also the main source of many domestic flights within Tanzania. Another popular point of entry into Tanzania is Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha. Apart from flights, there are buses available for moving around in Tanzania, and ferries operate to coastal destinations such as Zanzibar. However, if you are planning to travel around in Tanzania by road, you should take some extra care because local roads are mainly in poor condition and traveling often takes more time than you might have guessed.
Services for tourism.
A popular African tourist destination, Tanzania has better touristic services than many of its neighboring countries. Although this does not mean you would find a row of luxury hotels and tourist offices in Tanzanian tourism hot spots, it does mean that quite nice services for guiding, accommodation and dining are available even in rural destinations such as Kilimanjaro and Serengeti. Tanzania is a relatively safe place to travel to by African standards and English is commonly spoken throughout the country. However, as theft and robberies do occur, it is advised to avoid walking alone at night and to take good care of your valuables.
